International Course in Yeast Systems Biology
June 2-19, 2008
Lundberg Laboratory, University of Gothenburg and
Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden
Invitation
It is our pleasure to invite interested PhD students and post-doctoral scientists to join the 3rd International Course in Yeast Systems Biology. ICYSB will be an intense hands-on Systems Biology experience.
Introduction
Systems Biology is one of the most prominent newly emerging interdisciplinary science areas. By connecting fields such as genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics,
mathematics, engineering, cell biology and genetics, with mathematics and computation, it enables discovery of yet unknown principles underlying the functioning
of living cells. At the same time testable and predictive models of complex cellular pathways and eventually of whole cells are generated. ICYSB will provide a
hands-on experience in combining experimentation and mathematical modeling with an emphasis on kinetic modeling of cellular pathways. The course focuses on yeast
because the development of the emerging field of Systems Biology requires suitable model systems for data generation.
The course will build on four blocks: (1) Introduction for theoreticians and experimentalists, respectively; (2) MAPK signalling, incl. single cell analysis; (3) TOR signalling; (4) Network biology and metabolism. Each block will be presented by leading theoreticians
and experimental biologists. Different types of mathematical models will be dissected, tested and improved based on experimental data. The hands-on experience will provide skills
for pursuing Systems Biology approaches and a feeling for the potential of the field.
In 2008 the course is supported by the YSBN Coordination Action, the UNICELLSYS large EC project, the EST Marie Curie project Systems
Biology, the NordForsk project Systems Biology and the Chalmers Biocenter.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Göteborg, Sweden.
Critical Dates
